Free Speech for all, except for Conservatives

I am not a big fan of free speech because some people well, umm…just make an idiot of themselves when they open their mouths; but like it or not, it does exist. So, I wonder what the big deal is when Anne Coulter called John Edwards a “faggot” back in March. Everyone who saw the tape knows that she was only kidding, yet she continues to get attacked by the mainstream media and liberal blogs. The fact is that Ann Coulter has the right to say any damn thing she wants; even if it’s that she wishes John Edwards would be killed in a terrorist assassination plot (sounds quite similar to the comments made by Bill Maher about Cheney a few months back - and where was the outrage?). Yes indeed, seems like Anne’s comments are a tad bit extreme but let’s go back to all the things that liberals have said that the media hardly ever reports:
Rosie O’Donnell (aka: the beast) - The Bush administration was behind 9/11.
Michael Moore - I personally hold Blair more responsible for this war than I do George Bush. The reason is, Blair knows better, Blair is not an idiot. What is he doing hanging around this guy?
John Kerry - You know, education, if you make the most of it, if you study hard and you do your homework, and you make an effort to be smart, uh, you, you can do well. If you don’t, you get stuck in Iraq.
Ron Paul (who?) - We had 9/11 coming to us because we were attacking Iraq.
Natalie Maines - Just so you know, we’re ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas
Janine Garofalo (horrible actress and failing talk show host) - This dumbing down and this pseudo patriotism, which is very conveniently partisan, because the dumb and the mean love patriotism…Yeah, it’s my country right or wrong. Well what of these colors don’t run? What do you mean? I don’t know. They use the word evildoer with a straight face, knee jerk reactionary phrases that go down well from the Republican Party with the dumb and the mean and then the mean pretend that it’s unpatriotic to be critical of your government.
Hillary Rodham Clinton - This administration is waging war on poor children.
Al Gore - He betrayed this country! He played on our fears! He took America on an ill-conceived foreign adventure dangerous to our troops, an adventure pre-ordained and planned before 9/11 ever took place!
Cindy Sheehan - George and ***, you are both shameful cowards who are sending our brave young people to die to make yourselves and your buddies unbelievably and fabulously wealthy. Neither of you have any idea of the true human, sorrowful cost of war nor do you care that you are ruining lives by the thousands and thousands. You both disgust me beyond belief.
This fat liberal kid on Youtube – I hate Anne Coulter. I just hate her. She is a meany head. I hope she is killed and her bones are ground up to make bread; and that bread is broken by Jesus and that bread is fed to 5,000 people. Amen.
So, for all you cracker head liberals that read this blog…why is it always a double standard with you? You bitch, complain and cry about tolerance yet exercise none whatsoever. You hate capitalism, but did you know that the Edwards camp made $300,000 in campaign contributions using the video of Anne’s comments? I bet not!
By the way, before you start sending me hate mail saying that I hate the US and the Constitution, I was only kidding about hating free speech!! I have done far more for this country than most of you…have a sense a humor.

Err Ron Paul never said "We had 9/11 coming to us because we were attacking Iraq." Did you even watch the GOP debates? He said that our interventionist foreign policy invites attacks. He didn't say that we deserved it. The CIA has said the exact same thing.

The Coulter comments on Edwards being assassinated was so blatantly taken out of context and then broadcasted as truth. It's disgusting how the leftist media can twist anything they want and everyone just soaks it up. What's even worse is the hypocrisy of the left being able to say the EXACT SAME THING and not even get a slap on the wrist!

calling some one a faggot is hate speech.....and like it or not "hate speech" is a crime now.
"hate" crimes are nothing less than the ability for a jury to convict you based on your 'thought processes'.
Funny how "ni**er" isn't "hate speech" when it's uttered by a black person, yet when I say it you cry foul.

I'm not sure exactly what you are getting at in this post.
No one has prevented Anne Coulter from continuing to exersize her right to free speech. They have simply criticized her ideas and her methods of conveying them. The right to free speech certainly is not designed to exempt one from the burden of criticism.
Also, some of the quotes that you used as examples of liberal exemption were at least as severely attacked as some of the things that Coulter has said. For example: John Kerry paid dearly with political capital, time, and PR energy for what was considered an offensive comment on education and the troops.
What is particularly interesting about Coulter is that her support base and her fiercest critics are so eager to hear the next inflammatory comment and divisive sound bite that the more she is criticized and lashed out at, the more attention she gets and the more money she makes. Candidates are not so lucky as pundits in this respect. Nor are pundits that base their career on solid political analysis so lucky as she, since she makes her money off of shock value while adhering to a very easily followed extremist party line.

Regarding "hate speech" and "Hate crimes," the very idea is troubling. The fundamental purpose of the law is to restrain evil. In so doing, it can only address action. Our judicial system can only continue to function in a right and healthy way as it addresses the actions of criminals. The thought or motives behind a crime are inconsequential when determining guilt or pronouncing justice. The notion of classifying something as "hate speech" or a "hate crime" is simply a way for the liberals to worm their way into the position of "thought police." Their quest for power will not end until we are submitted to their political correctness.

I still can't believe he called her a "meaniehead". What self respecting human puts a video online showing their vocabulary is that of a 4 year old? Anyways, yes, I hope you don't mind if I use some of those quotes in a blog post of my own. Also, I can't figure out what (plugin, or just code?) that you use for the bookmarks? That is the best one I have ever seen, I would appreciate it if you could point me to/give me the code for it, it is brilliant! Thanks once again.

Yeah I just wanted to point out that scrutinizing the government and holding officials accountable is what free speech was meant for. Calling somebody a "faggot" falls into the category of what you were talking about before. About people who open their mouths sounding like idiots.

I doubt anyone has a problem with what Ann Coulter said about John Edwards, It's more to do with what she said about gay people. Implying that someone is less worthwhile because of an arbitrary personal trait isn't free speech, it's prejudice.
