Video: Obama on National Security and Defense Spending, or lack thereof

June 9th, 2008 Urban Conservative

Mark my words, friends. If Obama gets elected as President, we are pretty much screwed on all ends. It’s no wonder why terrorist organizations across the Middle East are pulling for him. I am surprised that this video hasn’t received any media coverage at all; and I am wondering why my conservative brethren in the blogosphere haven’t picked up on this. In a nutshell, Obama says and I quote:

  • I will not develop new nuclear weapons
  • I will cut investments in missile defense systems
  • I will slow our development of future combat systems

I understand he is a pacifist and all, but does he really think we can negotiate with terrorists. Consider this quote from the CNBC Democratic Debates last year:

And what we should be doing is reaching out aggressively to our allies, but also talking to our enemies and focusing on those areas where we do not accept their actions, whether it be terrorism or developing nuclear weapons, but also talking to Iran directly about the potential carrots that we can provide in terms of them being involved in the World Trade Organization, or beginning to look at the possibilities of diplomatic relations being normalized.

My jaw hit the ground when he made his comment about cutting investments in missile defense systems. These are DEFENSE systems we are talking about. In the video, he talks about protecting the American people; yet he wants to cut missile defense systems. I don’t get it.

Now it all sounds good … the “ban on nuclear weapons” vision and all; but it’s highly unlikely that Russia, China, India and Pakistan, and whoever else is seeking nuclear superiority will agree to this. And even if they did, I would be highly skeptical of them to actually follow through with it. I don’t think he even believes he can accomplish this. He is doing what all politicians do best … tell constituents exactly what they want to hear.

Many of you truly believe that I am a warmonger because I supported the Iraq War; and still do. I am not. I hate war and the devastation it brings to innocent men, woman and children. But I believe that in order for there to be peace, there HAS to be war. It is a necessary evil that has proven itself throughout history time and time again. And the last I checked, we can’t fight nuclear weapons with muskets and gunpowder; and we can’t protect ourselves with out state of the art missile defense systems.

Watch the video and then ask yourself, “Will my family and I be safe from terrorism and war if Obama is our next President?”

There will be virtually no difference between McCain and Obama. Obama has made a myriad of comments that go both ways as far as foreign policy is concerned. He is a first-class politician. These two candidates, and the parties they represent, have no interest in answering to you, nor do they have any interest in "serving" you. The facts continue to be thrown right into the face of the American public. It's funny, we should all be working together to stop the true enemy of the average world citizen, but instead we argue about TWO candidates and TWO parties that will end up implementing the same policies that they have always implemented, policies that kill poor people here and abroad while serving the interests of the few. The facts are right there.

When was the last time Iran attacked another country? Why do we still buy what this government is selling us? Here is a good 30-minute video on a sampling of the people of Iran:

Urban,

If you truly hate war and the devastation it brings to men, women, and children, I suggest that you stop supporting the Iraq war. The war was never intended to provide peace to anybody. It has absolutely nothing to do with creating peace. If you disagree with me, please tell me how that statement is false.

WE are not against the people of Iran we are for them to get out of the terrible Mullocracy that has taken ove the country. If you fo not see the difference, I really do not know what will persuade you to anything other than a total defiance against what.

And if you think that Obama and McCain are similar in their politics, I would love to have some of what you are smoking.

What a terrible time to be a liberal! Worse yet, this a fantastic time for Obama supporters to crawl back into the dark places from which they came.
Unless you support a strong America, you support terror. Plain and simple. Do not insult American intellect by suggesting that we should pick and choose the nations that support terrorists...you did that before (remember Clinton?).
Liberals in Congress have created the mess we are in, and they continue to dump water in the boat boasting that they are trying to bail us out. We Americans know better...we Americans will not be duped by nor lured into the socialistic rantings of so many that want us to feel as if our world is imminently doomed.
I absolutely love the McCain response to Hussein's rhetoric about "Bush's third term"...BHO is Carter's third. Those of us that can remember, recognize the truth as spoken by the bi-racial dude with the mouthy wife...you kids better wake up!

"... he talks about protecting the American people; yet he wants to cut missile defense systems."

I'm assuming that your "I don’t get it." response was a rhetorical device.

Obama's remarkable statement makes sense, if you remember the assumptions common to many in the academic and liberal enclaves of America. In their world, building a defensive missile system is an act of aggression, threatening the psychological well-being of foreign leaders.

There may be a bit of truth in the idea, but I don't agree.

I'm (rather selfishly) glad that I live in Central Minnesota: upstream of the prevailing winds from the eastern seaboard, and with a couple thousand miles and a few mountain ranges between my family an the west coast.

Not that I think there'll be a nuclear attack, of course. But who'd want to take a crazy chance?

Well, I live next to probably one of the most strategic places in the US, Scott AFB. It is where the central internet is for all military branches and also the logostics center for all military branches. Remember War Games, the movie, Scott AFB was the second place hit in the model war game.

Why is that bit about nuclear weapons bad exactly? How many do we have now? Enough to blow up the world 176 billion times over? Yeah, we need more, though.

I'm so damn sick of that petty excuse of an argument about "negotiating with terrorists." First of all, negotiations aren't bad. Appeasement is bad. Not every negotiation is a Hitleresque appeasement, you fuckin idiots. So why the hell is it so damn wrong to sit down and talk with these guys? No man, fuck that, let's just blow the shit out of them! That'll teach them! And if someone else complains (cus those guys can't complain, cus they'll be dead already cus we blew em up!), then we'll just blow THEM up! Yeaaah! USA! USA!

It's people like you that perpetuate the myth that diplomacy can't work. We have to resort to violence immediately, like good ol' GWB. Why don't we just use our nukes to blow the world up. Then there'd be no UNINFORMED libs, and all the INFORMED conservatives would go to heaven, where there'd be no libs or muslims or gays. Stupid libs. DEMOCRACY CAN'T-- oh, shit, sorry, I meant DIPLOMACY--CAN'T WORK! Wake up!

By the way, he's cutting spending on defense systems that aren't working. Alert the presses, someone's using his brain.

As for weaponizing space? Who knows what we'll find on Mars. Could already be a gigantic Martian fleet in wait. We HAVE to weaponize space. So on that point, I completely disagree with Hussein, the fool. Bring back Star Wars!
